Photography, travel, and visual storytelling needed a dedicated home. I designed and built the original nicolasperl.com as a minimal portfolio where the images could take priority.
Research
The project evolved from an earlier freelance site focused on PCB design and software development. Because the photography portfolio served a different audience, I started again and studied the work of established visual storytellers and photographers in the industry for direction.
Development
The first version centred on a statement image and three simple destinations: home, work, and about. Individual project pages used image grids, while the about page introduced my background and provided contact and social links.
The first prototype was built with simple HTML, CSS and Bootstrap in its first iteration. Git tracked the progress, while milestones and planned additions were organised in Notion.

Release and iteration
The work grid, page templates, and responsive styling changed over several iterations. Mobile adaptation became one of the largest parts of the implementation, requiring more adjustments and time than originally expected.

The minimalistic design using a distinct font-family, fitting colors and few, cohesive and minimal elements make it stand out and a perfect fit for its purpose: a relaxing space inviting you to get lost in images of nature, road trips and unforgetable moments.
